So, my hair color journey began during my college years. Although I only tried to add a few highlights when I was younger; I now prefer one color.
My Hair Color Journey
When I first decided to write an article; I reached out to many different Salon Owners and Hairdressers.
The one thing that I learned is many different hairdressers don’t write down the formula they use each time as I learned from my experience with D. Moreover, that results in your hair looking differently the next time you have your hair colored.
Another thing I learned is what works for one person; may not be a fit for another. Everyone has different hair texture and their hormones can result in their hair looking much different than someone else.
For instance, you may like someone else’s color; but it may not be the right shade for you.
When I was younger, I didn’t experience the same things I have seen as I have aged.
Because I have had my hair colored since my early 20s, I often didn’t like my color. In my opinion, the blond highlights left me with an ash brown. Luckily, that grew out…
But, as time went on; I was always trying to lighten my brunette shade.
When I look back at photos of myself in prior years; I was surprised to see how certain shades didn’t flatter me.
Like a lot of people, I continued my search for the right color and hairdresser.
Drama at Hair Salons
Over the last two decades, I have seen drama and have personally experienced trash-talking behind my back.
Of course, in any business with more than one employee; there is bound to be drama from time to time. In a creative industry; many hairdressers think they know best. But, that is often not the case.
One owner, I spoke to told me when they see problems with their staff; they immediately shut it down.
I had a horrible experience with G. Although I only went to this hairdresser for a few months; she had an issue with the Salon Owner’s prices he gave to me.
A while back when I was looking for a new hairdresser, someone was recommended to me and I reached out to that individual.
Oops – I made a mistake! I texted the wrong person who was still listed on my contact list with the same first name. That person was beyond unprofessional and showed me her true colors – no pun intended.
Of course, some hairdressers think they are better than their clients. But, they need to remember it is their clients who contribute to their paycheck
Moreover, someone who continues to berate others is a sign that person is like something contaminated.
One owner I spoke to said they don’t tolerate drama and if it occurs, they immediately shut it down. If they don’t; it spreads and impacts others. Now, they tend to hire mature people who are capable of working together.
No business should keep a rude person. So, if a person cannot control their issues; it is best to let this individual go no matter how talented they are.
Finding the Right Hairdresser
Although I was lucky to have had many great hairdressers in my thirties; many of these hairdressers moved on to other locations or to Salons that weren’t convenient to me.
However, when I moved to Peabody, Massachusetts; my issues began. Through the years, I tried many different Salons. Though I prefer stability; I often found myself unhappy with my hair color. Hence, this led to me trying many different Salons.
After many horrible experiences; I am happy to say I have found the right hairdresser in B.
Your Hair Will Grow
Finally, if you are looking to try a new color or haircut; I recommend you do it.
Consequently, if you get a bad haircut; you can always reach out to the Salon. Or, you may want to try a new Salon.
However, if you want to try something completely different; go for it. However, if the color doesn’t flatter you; you can always try a toner.
Clairol Professional Shimmer Light
So, if you are trying to have the perfect shade of blonde but your color doesn’t look right to you; you can try to use a toner.
From Clairol, this toner will get rid of any brassiness and add shine.
The trick is to leave on the lighter for longer than it says.
