So, the 2025 Red Sox v Yankees wild card begins today. Indeed, one of the biggest rivalries is back. This 3 game series is sure to bring plenty of excitement to baseball fans.
2025 Red Sox v Yankees Wild Card
First and foremost, this series is expected to generate considerable excitement in Boston and New York.
In the regular season, the record was 9 – 4 between the two teams. Because the Sox won more games against them, their youth and experience may help them win this series.
With the regular season in the rear-view mirror, the October baseball playoffs begin.
2025 Red Sox v Yankees Wild Card – Details About Both Teams
Since 2021, the teams haven’t faced each other in the playoffs. When Alex Cora faced the Yankees in 2021, they won the Wild Card Game and the American League Division Series. Will Alex Cora’s experience help them win again?
Of course, there are pluses and minuses with both teams. With Boston having better pitchers and New York having more power, this series could go either way.
After the MLB Trade Deadline, I had concerns that the team didn’t do enough. To read more about this year’s trades, check out my 2025 Red Sox Trade Deadline post. Although they clinched a Wild Card spot, I have doubts about them going very far.
In fact, many of the trades they made didn’t work out. Moreover, their failure to make a big acquisition at the deadline could hurt them as a contender in this series.
2025 Red Sox v Yankees Wild Card Schedule
So, this year’s Wild Card series begins on Tuesday, September 30th. Additionally, four games are taking place today. The other teams playing today are the Detroit Tigers v the Cleveland Guardians, the Cincinnati Reds v the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Chicago Cubs v the San Diego Padres.
Since the Yankees had the better record, they will host this series.
The series is the best of 2. And the schedule is as follows.
Tuesday, September 30th – Game 1 will be in New York at 6:08 p.m. on ESPN
Wednesday, October 1st – Game 2 will be in New York at 6:08 p.m. on ESPN
Thursday, October 2nd – If necessary, Game 3 will also be in New York at 6:08
Starting Pitchers
When the Yankees signed Max Fried at the beginning of 2025, the Red Sox countered by signing Garrett Crochet. Meanwhile, Crochet has had a career year. He has led the American League with 205 1/3 innings pitched and has led the MLB with 255 strikeouts. Furthermore, the games Crochet pitched in against New York, they went 3 – 0, and Boston won all 4 games.
Of course, Crochet will be the starting pitcher for Game 1.
At the same time, Max Fried has had the most wins of a starting pitcher for the Yankees in the last 15 years. He will be the starting pitcher for Game 1.
For Game 2, Brayan Bellow will get the ball. In my opinion, Bellow hasn’t been at his best over his last several starts. Hopefully, he will return to form for Game 2.
For Game 2, the Yankees will have Carlos Rodón start.
If necessary, Game 3 starters will be Lucas Giolito for Boston and Cam Schittler for New York. Meanwhile, I’m worried about Giolito. Over the last several games, he has given up a lot of walks. Also, he has had fewer strikeouts.
Though the Red Sox have better starters, it is uncertain how they will perform based on some of their struggles lately.
Who Will Win
So, the Wild Card predictions are out. Unfortunately, Red Sox Nation will be disappointed that 2 out of 3 sports analysts have the Yankees to win the series. Though I’m not sure how this series will go, I have high hopes that my team will surprise me.
As always, I welcome your comments on the 2025 Red Sox v Yankees Wild Card. Will you be tuning in? Who do you think will win?
