Did you know that this month is National Drunk Driving Prevention Month. So every year, lives are lost by drunk and drugged drivers.

First and foremost, driving under the influence of alcohol is deadly. And, every year we continue to read about fatalities throughout the world. Because this is a big month for holiday parties, celebrations and New Years Eve; December 2014 was proclaimed as National Impaired Driving Prevention Month by former President, Barack Obama.

Every year, lives and accidents occur in traffic crashes involving drunk and drugged drivers.

Alcohol and Drugs

So, every year a good amount of accidents happen. Due to alcohol consumption of .08 or higher, there are more fatalities each year. Indeed, alcohol and drugs are a worldwide problem. Hence, alcohol and drugs can impair judgement, perception, memory and motor skills.

How To Ensure Safe Driving

Of course, most of these types of accidents are preventable. Since we’re all aware of the consequences of driving under the influence; every year deadly crashes occur. Due to December being National Drunk Driving Prevention Month; let’s support driving sober.

In the same fashion, December is a month with a lot of celebrations. No doubt, this should be a way of life all year. In the meantime, if you’re at a party and see someone intoxicated, take their keys. Another option is to offer someone a ride home. By taking their keys, you’re helping prevent an accident.

Meanwhile, if you know someone is under the influence, contact the police. Above all, it is important that families talk about the risk of driving under the influence. In addition, if you’re going out with a group of people; have a designated driver.

Introduce Non-Alcoholic Beverages

If you’re having a party; introduce non-alcoholic beverages to your guests.There are a lot of mocktail recipes. Of course, these mocktail drinks are becoming a big hit at parties.

In conclusion, let’s do our part in keeping our highways and side streets safe.
