Since one of the most common phrases in the Winter months we hear is a Winter weather advisory has been issued. With Winter weather upon us, it is important to plan ahead.

Snow storms, cold weather and ice storms can be treacherous. As a result of a winter weather advisory, we can plan accordingly. Although Winter is here, prepare ahead of time. With colder temperatures, plan to wear appropriate clothing.
Winterize your Home
Due to many of us preferring to be a homebody in the winter months, it is important to prepare your home for the winter months. In addition, you can prepare your home by:
- Install storm windows
- Clean out your gutter
- Repair any roof leaks
- Install insulation
- Check your heating system
- Check your furnace
- Also, make sure to clean your chimney and fireplace
In addition, make sure to check all your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. Additionally, make sure you have a supply of batteries on hand.
Automobile
If you live in an area that gets a lot of snow, make sure you have all-weather or snow tires on. Furthermore, it is important to check your oil, anti-freeze level and tire pressure. I find when there is messy weather, I’m forever using my windshield washer fluid. Make sure you have ample supply in the winter months.
If you become stranded during a storm, it is important to have an emergency kit on hand. Hence, a few things to keep in your car are:
- Blankets
- Cell phone – make sure this is at full strength
- Water
- Tire pump
- Cables
- Flashlight
- First aid kit
Winter Outdoor Activities
If you’re a fan of winter activities, make sure your properly prepared in case of a severe storm. Of course, proper clothing is key for the outdoors.
- Hat
- Gloves
- Scarf
- Waterproof or snow boots
- Heavy coat (insulated)
- Sweater (layering)
Also, make sure you have your cell phone and an extra battery in case of an emergency. When your participating in an outdoor activity, it is good to have a friend or relative with you.
