Boston Bruins Win Presidents Trophy

The Boston Bruins won the Presidents Trophy for the third time in their franchise history; when the regular season officially came to an end a few days ago. In the team’s franchise history; they won the trophy in both the 1989-1990 season and in 2013-2014.

Boston Bruins Win Presidents Trophy

Since this season came to an end in March 2020 due to COVID-19; it is nice to see there is a plan in the works for the NHL to move forward.

After losing to the St Louis Blues in 2019 in Game 7 of the Stanley Cups Finals last year; this year’s team seemed to be on track to be right back in the finals before the shut-down of the regular season. To read more, be sure to check out my Boston Bruins Stanley Cup Loss post.

Now that the regular season has concluded; there were several awards given out.

In the Atlantic Division, the Boston Bruins won the title beating out the Tampa Bay Lightning. In addition to the Bruins winning the Presidents Trophy; the team had the top goaltending with both Tuukka Rask and Jaroslav Halak winning the William M Jennings Trophy.

Also, David Pastrnak shared the leading goal scorer along with Alex Ovechkin who both had 48 goals to win the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy.

NHL Post Season Plans

With the regular season in the rearview mirror; the postseason plans are as follows.

  • 24 Teams will return to play
  • So, the NHL is hoping to return to Phase 2, and the teams should be able to return to practice facilities in early June
  • In Phase 3, this looks like mandatory training camps won’t resume until July 10th
  • In Phase 4, it looks like the teams wouldn’t begin regular play until the earliest late July or early August.
  • Chiefly, there will be two hub cities for the remaining games. There will be one for the Eastern Conference and one for the Western Conference.
  • Finally, due to COVID-19, the teams will be limited to 50 personnel in their hub city; however, there will be a small amount of staff allowed into an area of the arena.
  • Moreover, there will be a plan for COVID-19 testing

How far will the Bruins go in their Quest for the Stanley Cup

With the Bruins being one game away from winning the Stanley Cup in 2019; there is a lot of hope for Bruins fans that this year’s team is on pace for a strong playoff run.

As always, I welcome your comments on whether or not you think this year’s Bruins team will win the Stanley Cup?
