International Sweatpants Day is today, January 21st. In the 1920s, Emile Camuset, founder of Le Coq Sportif created sweatpants for athletes. Since its inception; athleisure wear has become a key component of fashion.
International Sweatpants Day History
Though this day was started over 100 years ago; these soft casual pants are a source of comfort for athletes. Since that time, these pants have been made in many different ways. For instance, you may find styles in loose and baggy or fitted styles. At the same time, many styles come with banded hems and others are with looser hemlines.
In 1926, Russell Athletic made this style more comfortable replacing the wool jersey with soft cotton. And, a decade later; Champion introduced a clothing line known as Reverse Weave. Hence, how this came about was the construction was made with fabric running sideways in a process that was heavy duty.
In the 1950s, this style was worn as gym wear. Many colleges and universities had their names on the sweatshirts and you would often see students wearing their sweatshirts with a pair of jeans or khakis,
When the 60s began, more athletes became associated with sweat clothes. As this continued to grow, this was embraced in the 80s by many musicians.
Moreover, social media raised athletic clothing to a new level. With this trend going mainstream; designers were introducing new styles regularly with their collections.
Hence, in 2010, International Sweatpants Day was born.
Celebrate International Sweatpants Day
Since this is a fun fashion holiday; why not wear your favorite pair of sweatpants today?

No matter what part of the country you live in; sweatpants are always a great style to wear to any casual event or if you are working remotely.
When you want to look put together but don’t have a lot of time; selecting a pair of comfortable sweatpants and adding a matching sweatshirt will have you look put together.
And, if you are looking for something bright or prefer something subtle; look for something bold or neutral. Of course, selecting the right color can really make a difference.
However, if you are looking to dress up your sweats; add a pair of heels, a stylish top and some fun accessories.
