NFL Season Rule Changes

Of course, every year brings change to the game. This year is no different.

  • In the first place, one of the biggest changes in the game is to enforce stronger penalties to protect the players from usage of the helmet. For example, if a player uses any type of force with a helmet; the player can be ejected. Additionally, any impact by helmet to the head, neck, hips, torso or lower body is also a foul and can result in an ejection.
  • This year, both offensive and defensive pass interference calls are reviewable.
  • Moreover, the NFL owners came to an agreement to protect defenseless players from a blindside  block.
  • In addition, the Owners agreed to make the rule change to the 2018 kickoff changes permanently.
  • Also, eight players must be lined up in the fifteen yard set-up prior to a kickoff. Hence, three players are able to remain outside the set-up zone.
  • Consequently, there will be much stricter offensive holding rules this season.
  • In 2019, all celebrations are only for players in uniform.
