Are you ready for a Spring clean closet makeover? When it comes to our closet; we’ve all collected clothes, shoes and accessories throughout the years.
Spring Clean Closet Makeover
Since I was in the fashion industry for over 25 years; I decided to take some time to use my skills and make some changes. Because I have a fairly large walk-in closet; I first took out all my clothes. Indeed, this took me several hours to go through everything.
Moreover, I made a few different piles. In one pile, I had a large bag set aside to use as a donation pile. In my opinion, a trash bag is the best option which makes any closest makeover much easier to store a lot of things.
And, make sure you have a second bag to toss any items that are ripped or stained.
Also, this bag is great to use to store items that are in good condition and donate. Anything you’re considering donating; be sure to check out my Clean Donate Swap Sell Clothes post for a few non-profit places to donate to.

In the same fashion, it is important to set time aside to try on clothes. Button, shimmy, and zip your way into items you haven’t tried on for eons.
Spring Clean Closet Makeover Steps
When you’re on the fence on whether to keep something or toss; ask yourself the following.
- Have I worn this item in the last year?
- Does this style fit?
- Is this comfortable?
- Also, is it in good condition?
- Of course, if something has sentimental value; it may be hard to part ways. For instance, your wedding dress or an item of clothing from your Mother or Grandma.
- Will I wear this again?
So, if you answered “No” to more than one of the questions above; it is probably time to separate. Aah – parting can be such “sweet sorrow” but you will feel much lighter in having less clutter.
Finally, once you have purged items from your closet; it is time to do a final look over. For instance, if you were on the fence on a few things; ask yourself, “should this stay or go”?
Now, that you have parted ways with many things; it is time to organize. Of course, we all have a method where we store our accessories, clothes, and shoes. However, I have a few ideas that may make things easier.
If you have a large walk-in closet or keep shoes on shelves; you can use a plastic clear box. By using a transparent box, you will be able to retrieve what you’re looking for much faster.
Meanwhile, I also keep my shoes by color. For example, I keep all my black shoes on a few rows, blue shoes on another row, pink, rose and burgundy on another row, etcetera, etcetera.

Maintain your Spring Clean Closet Makeover
Although you may be giving your closet an edit; it’s important to maintain. Above all, if you have extra space in your home, use bins to put either in a separate room or under your bed to give your closet even more space.
Certainly, now that you have cleaned out your closet; I recommend you do closet edits twice a year. By doing it twice a year; you will save a ton of time and also have fewer items to go through.
As always, I welcome your comments on any Spring clean closet makeover tips you want to share.
