So, if you aren’t familiar with this day; it is a fun fashion holiday to wear something you either made yourself or a style you already own.
Of course, the day is about wearing a style to have fun in.
In the early 19th century, dresses were lightweight and simple. However, in the 1830s oversized and puffed sleeve dresses became the norm. And, in the mid-century, dresses became accentuated with cinched waists and corset bodices.
In the 1900s, dresses continued to change. Furthermore, styles were at the forefront in the 1930s. After World War II styles were shorter. Around the late 1940s, styles returned to a more conservative look. In fact, Christian Dior is known for creating a “New Look” which featured longer dresses that emphasized the hourglass figure.
In the 1960s, mini skirts and dresses were the rage.
How to Celebrate Wear a Dress Day?
In April 2010 this day was created from a discussion that started in Bend, Oregon about how beautiful dresses are and how people should wear them more often.
By the end of May, over 100,000 people had RSVP’d to attend an event to wear a dress for the day. Since that time, this fashion holiday commences on June 1st and December 1st.
