American Fashion talent has been supported by Vogue and the Council of Fashion Designers in America. Moreover, this is to support emerging fashion talent with the next generation of American Fashion Designers.
Many new Designers are hoping to become the next big thing in American Fashion. After September 11, 2011, Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour saw many young fashion Designers struggling. Furthermore, she partnered with the Council of Fashion Designers of America to start the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund. This was set up to support new American fashion talent.
Launched in 2004 the competition awards one Grand Prize Winner and two runners up with a monetary amount. It provides business mentorship from established designers and industry executives. The finalists for 2015 for the first time are on Amazon Fashion. With fashions changing so frequently, it is nice to see new talent. The top three winners for 2015 are Brother Vellies, Gypsy Sport, and Jonathan Simkhai.
Brother Vellies
Aurora James founded Brother Vellies to introduce her favorite African footwear. Her collection is made up of boots, slippers, shoes, and sandals for Women and Men handmade by Artisans in Africa. Furthermore, the Company offers a variety of styles and three highlights of her collection are below.
I loved the Men’s boot and am definitely thinking this would be great for my Husband.
Gypsy Sport
Gypsy Sport designer Rio Uribe’s collection is inspirational by diversity and adversity. Since he embraces a gender fluid and pan ethic approach to fashion, he is spot-on. The result is inspiring, soulful, rich in personality that brings a fresh vibe to everyday streetwear. There are many great styles however my personal favorite style is the trapeze dress featured below.
Jonathan Simkhai
Jonathan Simkhai launched his Womenswear collection in 2010. In the same fashion, his focus on creating pieces that hold a masculine strength with feminine sensuality. Additionally, his styles are romantic while showing all the trends found this spring with details of lace, ruffles, and macramé embroidery. One of my favorite dresses is below.
There were many other great designs by other Designers on this front. In addition, I enjoyed reading about the backgrounds of these new Designers. In addition, I learnt about their start in the fashion industry and the inspiration behind their designs. Also below are some other great styles.
