Celebrate Fresh Fruit Vegetable Month

Celebrate Fresh Fruit Vegetable Month! So, across the country, many people are planting their own vegetables and growing fruit on their trees.

National Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Month

Although June is known for warm weather; it is also as National Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Month. Whether you grow your own vegetables and fruit or shop for them at a stand; there are countless choices.

Indeed, we all know the old saying – “An apple a day, keeps the doctor away”. Whether this is true or not; there are many health benefits associated with fruit and vegetables.

Celebrate Fresh Fruit Vegetable Month

Moreover, many individuals don’t know that avocados, cucumbers, hot chiles, squash and tomatoes are actually fruit. Because these aren’t sweet; many people don’t associate them with fruit.

Not only can you create a lot of different recipes; but also fruit and vegetables are a great way to incorporate color into your meals for your kids.

To celebrate this month, you can build a garden. check out a new farmers markets or learn about the path to a plate.

Fresh Fruit and Vegetable List

So, are you ready to make out your fruit and vegetable list?

  • Arugula – You can use arugula for salad and pair with cheese or cold pasta.
  • Blackberries – These are rich in Vitamin A, C, E, K, Calcium, Magnesium and Potassium.
  • Cauliflower – In my opinion, one of the best ways to prepare cauliflower is to saute it with a tablespoon of light olive oil and a tablespoon of fresh garlic cloves. Add, some ground black pepper and a few red pepper flakes. Indeed, this is perfect to pair with vegetable pasta or as a side dish.
  • Kale – Of course, this is one of the hottest foods on the planet. In my opinion, a Kale Ceasar Salad is a great choice. To read more, be sure to check out my National Kale Day October post.
  • Red peppers – Yum – these are delicious. Try grilling or roast. Also, red peppers have Vitamins, A, B6 and C.
  • Spinach – You can use for salad or can saute with a tablespoon of light olive oil, a teaspoon of fresh garlic and parmesan cheese for the perfect side dish.
  • Strawberries – A sweet ending to your meal. Meanwhile, you can get creative and dip your strawberries in chocolate or put in a blender to create a smoothie.

Although fruit is higher in sugar than vegetables; it is still a healthy source of antioxidants, minerals, vitamins and water.
