So, the Celtics v Knicks are set to begin Round 2 in the NBA playoffs, which will kick off at the TD Garden today, May 5, 2025.

In the regular season series, the Boston Celtics won the series by sweeping the New York Knicks 4 – 0. But now that the regular season is in the rear-view mirror, this will be their 16th meeting in the playoffs. In the past, Boston has won 8 of these matchups while the Knicks have won 7.
This will be their 16th meeting in the playoffs. Though the Celtics have dominated the Knicks as of late, can the Knicks show up for this series?
Boston Celtics
In round 1 of the playoffs, the Celtics defeated the Orlando Magic in five games, winning the series 4 – 1. Also, in round 1 of their matchup against the Orlando Magic, Jrue Holiday missed the last 3 games of the series. Though they played shorthanded, they were easily able to defeat Orlando.
Now that round 1 is over, they are moving on to the second round.
Although the Celtics swept the season against the Knicks, anything can happen in the playoffs.

New York Knicks
In the off-season, the Knicks made 2 trades in which they acquired center Karl Anthony Towns and forward Mikal Bridges. With both of these moves, they felt they would have an opportunity to beat a top contender.
Though the team has good defenders, they will have to step up to be competitive in this series.
2025 Celtics v Knicks Round 2 Playoff Schedule
Since the Celtics are the Number 2 seed, they will have home advantage.
So, the schedule for Round 2 is as follows.
- Monday, May 5th – the New York Knicks will visit Boston – Game 1 will be at 7:0o p.m. EST on TNT
- Wednesday, May 7th – the New York Knicks will be in Boston – Game 2 will be at 7:00 p.m. EST on TNT
- Saturday, May 10th – the Boston Celtics will visit New York – Game 3 – time TBD and will be on ABC
- Monday, May 12th – the Boston Celtics will be in New York – Game 4 – time TBD and will be on ESPN
- Wednesday, May 14th – the New York Knicks will be in Boston – Game 5 if needed, TBD on TNT
- Friday, May 16th – the Boston Celtics will be in New York – Game 6, if needed, TBD on ESPN
- Monday, May 19th – the New York Knicks will be in Boston – Game 7, if needed, TBD on TNT
The coverage for all of the games will begin 1 hour before tip-off.
Who Will Win
Though the Celtics won the series in the regular season, the playoffs are much different.
Although Kristaps Porzingis was inconsistent in Round 1 of the playoffs, he seems to play his best against the Knicks. Since he once played for the Knicks, he seems to really enjoy these matchups. Based on this, you can expect to see some good numbers put up.
When the teams faced off in the regular season, Boston shot 50% from the floor. Also, they shot 43.5% of 3-pointers. Moreover, if New York’s defense hasn’t improved dramatically from their regular-season match-ups, this will be a short series.
Indeed, the Knicks played well in Round 1 against the Detroit Pistons. They were able to secure a win in Game 6 with a 3-pointer with 4 seconds remaining to win the series.
For the Celtics, it is expected that Jrue Holiday will return to play in round 2. In addition, it is expected that Derick White will have an impact on this series. Also, you can expect both Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown to have an impact on this series, both offensively and defensively.
So, the sports predictions are for the Celtics to win and advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.
