Eye Care Month January

Eye Care Month January

January is National Eye Care Month. Of course, it is important to start the year off by taking care of your eyes. So, not only is this month, National Eye Care Month, but also Glaucoma Awareness Month.

Eye Care Month

Not only is it important to schedule an eye exam, but also to stay on top of your vision all year. In the first place, it is important to have an eye check-up at least once a year. No doubt, your vision can change over the course of the year. By having an eye exam yearly, you’re giving yourself the time to see if there are any changes.

Ophthalmologist

In my opinion, I prefer to see a ophthalmologist for my yearly eye exam. In the same way, an Opthalmologist will notice any changes in your eye health. Since I have a thyroid condition, I feel it is easier for me to work with a Medical Doctor.

In addition, a Opthalmologist can write you any prescriptions for eye glasses, contact lenses or any medications needed to treat any eye condition. Also, many ophthalmologist’s perform eye surgery.

Optician

Since many Medical Doctors have Optician’s working at their location; they are able to assist the Doctor in reading prescriptions as well as help you in selecting eyeglasses and other eyewear.

Optometrist

If your eyes are healthy, you can choose to see an Optometrist. Although Optometrist’s and Opthalmologist’s are both Eye Doctor’s, an Optometrist doesn’t perform eye surgery.

Glaucoma Awareness Month

So, January is National Glaucoma Awareness Month. In other words, this is a serious issue. Consequently, Glaucoma effects more than 3 million people in the United States. The National Eye Institute expects this number to increase. Arguably, there is no symptoms. Since there is no cure for Glaucoma, early detection can help the disease from progressing.

To summarize, the importance of having an eye exam once a year will help keep your vision healthy. In conclusion, don’t take your vision for granted. Make sure you schedule regular eye care check-ups.

As always, I welcome your comments.
