Support Breast Cancer Awareness Month. So, every few minutes a Woman is diagnosed with breast cancer. Indeed, the results are problematic.
Support Breast Cancer Awareness Month
In the first place, many Women have no signs of breast cancer. If you or someone you know has breast cancer, today’s post can help you. Above all, it is crucial to understand how your breasts feel and look. But even when you do self checkups; it is important to have a regular mammogram.
Mammogram Screening Recommendations
Consequently, if this runs in your family; it is critical to start your screening 10 years younger than the first time a family member was diagnosed. For example, if a family member had breast cancer at age 30, you should start having a mammogram at age 20.
At the same time, every Woman age 40 should have their first mammogram screening. From here on, age of 44 – 54, you should have a yearly mammogram. When a Woman reaches 55, they can switch to getting a mammogram every 2 years. However, if you have dense breasts or have had issues in the past, it is best to have a yearly screening.
Dense Breasts
Because many women have dense breasts, it may be difficult to receive accurate results on a mammogram. Moreover, additional testing may be recommended for women with dense breasts.
For example, Women with dense breasts appear solid white on a mammogram. However, Women with non-dense breasts appear darker in color and transparent. Due to more than 50% of Women having dense breasts, the Radiologist reviews your breast results.
If additional testing is required, these tests could include:
- Breast MRI – By the same token, this is usually recommended for Women at high risk for breast cancer.
- Breast Ultrasound – For this test, a diagnostic ultrasound is used to look at any concerns from the mammogram screening.
- Molecular breast imaging – First and foremost, a tracer is injected into a vein in your arm. A special camera is used to record all breast activity.
Of course, every test has pros and cons. It is important to consult with a medical professional to determine the best tests for your breast care.
