Celebrate National Sun Safety Week – May 3 – May 9th

Celebrate National Sun Safety Week! Because most of us love getting out in the sunshine; there are a few things you should know before you step outside.

Celebrate National Sun Safety

In the first place, anytime you step into the sunshine; it is important you apply sunscreen to all areas of your skin exposed to the sun. At the same time, it is important to reapply sunscreen every two hours or right after swimming or exercising outside.

Since May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month; it is essential that you have a skin check-up at least once a year. To read more on my story with skin cancer; be sure to visit my Skin Cancer Detection Month post.

Sun Protection Tips

Due to the harmful UVA/UVB rays; it is imperative that you use an SPF 30+ as well as wear protective clothing.

Though many people go outside without protecting their skin; it is essential that you take the time to prevent yourself from having to deal with skin cancer.

Whether you are spending time skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, swimming, outdoor sports, or lounging on a chair by a pool or on the beach;  you should use my tips to protect your skin.

  1. When you are out in the sun; it is best to find a shady spot between the hours of 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. when the sun is the strongest.
  2. Meanwhile, if you have infants or children; it is essential to avoid having them exposed to the sun.
  3. If you play sports or will be exposed to the sunlight; it is important to keep yourself protected. Hence, keep your skin covered with T-shirts, sunglasses, and sunscreen 30+ lotion.

Best Sun Protection Products

Since many people have jobs that put them in direct exposure to the powerful UVA/UVB rays; there are ways to stay one step ahead.

Of course, the most important item you need for any time you are in the sun is a good broad-spectrum sunscreen lotion. Even if there are clouds in the sky; it is important to know that clouds do not block sunlight.

From Banana Boat, this broad-spectrum sunscreen lotion absorbs quickly and has UVA/UVB protection. However, the key is to remember to reapply 2 teaspoons every 2 hours.
