Cook Your Food Not Your Skin

Cook your food, not your skin. So, the Friday before Memorial Day weekend is known as National Don’t Fry Day. Although many beaches may not be open due to the Coronavirus; many individuals will still be out in the sun.

At the same time, the importance of this day is to raise awareness of sun safety. With this month being about protecting your skin; be sure to check out my Skin Cancer Awareness Month post for tips on practicing safe sun.

Whether you’re on a boat, a beach, a lake, or lying out in your backyard; it is important to protect your skin. When you’re trying to stay safe from the sun; don’t fret as I have you covered.

Be Safe in the Sun

In the first place, the most important thing for you to know is ultraviolet radiation on your skin can be very damaging. Be sure to visit my Melanoma Monday post to learn the ABCDE’s of melanoma.

So, are you ready to protect your skin? Certainly, most skin issues come from exposure to ultraviolet rays. However, this can also come from man-made resources, such as:

  • Suntan beds
  • Suntan lamps

With this in mind, take the Sun Safety Quiz for great safety tips. In addition, each of us should check our skin regularly. When it comes to our skin; is it essential to have a regular skin exam.

If you have a family history of skin cancer, you’re more at risk. However, even if you don’t have a family history of skin cancer; you could still get melanoma.

Consequently, several years ago, I had a spot that ended up being melanoma. Since my own bout with melanoma; I cannot emphasize the importance of getting a regular skin examination as well as learning how to detect spots on your body.

Protect Yourself from the Sun

Now that you know how to detect and protect yourself from the powerful ultraviolet rays; it is time to take steps to limit your exposure.

If you’re going to be in the sun; be sure to take the following precautions.
