Say Yes to Sun Protection and No to Skin Cancer

Say Yes to sun protection! And, no to skin cancer. Since this is Skin Cancer Awareness Month and most of us will be spending more time outdoors; it is essential that we protect our skin.

Say Yes to Sun Protection

Because exposure to the dangerous UVA/UVB rays is one of the most preventable types of cancer; you must protect your skin. So, are you ready to learn everything you need to know about sun exposure?

In the first place, whenever you are in the sunlight; it is essential that you apply sunscreen with an SPF 30+. Moreover, you need to reapply it every 90 minutes or sooner if you have been in the water or sweating.

Though you may have heard about the importance of protecting your skin; do you know the reasons why you need to make this a priority? In fact, every year the number of Melanoma Skin Cancer deaths continues to rise. However, the numbers vary depending on age.

Therefore, anyone over 6 months old should be using a sunscreen with an SPF 30+ and reapply as stated above.

At the same time, one of the biggest changes you can make in your skin routine is to always apply sunscreen from the minute you leave your home.

Hence, there are so many products you can find on many aisles at drugstores and big-box retailers. I have a few recommendations for you.

No to Skin Cancer

Of course, it is essential to practice safe sun. Moreover, using sunscreen and reapplying it regularly will keep you protected from the harmful UVA/UVB rays.

From the time you are a baby; sun exposure is extremely dangerous. In fact, one of the most important ways to protect yourself and your family is to make sure everyone uses sunscreen from the minute they leave the house and reapplies it throughout the day.

Though there are a lot of statistics; I personally was diagnosed with Melanoma 6 years ago. Because I wasn’t in the sun as much as many other people I know and always wore sunscreen; I learnt that as early as an infant, you could have been exposed to this as a baby.

Because it takes many years for Melanoma Skin Cancer to develop; it is essential that you keep babies and your kids out of the sun. Due to a baby’s skin being so sensitive; you can use a small amount of SPF 30 if you have them outside. And, reapply.

Indeed, the best way to avoid Melanoma Skin Cancer is the following:

  • Always apply a generous amount of sunscreen lotion to your face and body.
  • Make sure you and your teenagers don’t go to Tanning Salons.
  • Also, it is important to wear protective clothing, wide-brim hat and sunglasses when you are in the sunlight.
  • Finally, try to avoid the sun when it is the strongest typically between the hours of 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Of course, no one wants to have skin cancer. Moreover, make sure you take precautions.

Finally, make sure you say “Yes” to sun protection and “No” to skin cancer.

As always, I welcome your comments.
