The 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics opening day ceremony was August 5th. First night festivities started at Maracana Stadium with a Parade of Nations.
Fashion, Style – Parade of Nations
Since you’re trying to look stylish among the 200 plus countries, you want to stand out looking fashionable and comfortable. Since every country has its own unique style, some standouts in the Parade of Nations fashions were:
- Aruba – Colors and fun hats. I’m looking forward to my upcoming vacation to Aruba.
- Barbados – Colorful and fun details. Barbados showed good tailoring and ways to accessorize.
- Benin – Pretty colors and in addition, fun hats.
- Great Britain – While the front of their jackets were plain, the back shows off the Olympic Coat of Arms.
- Hungary – Love the red and white dresses. Where can I shop for this style?
- Canada – Same as Great Britain, as their jackets were plain, but the back shows the Canadian spirit.
- Refugee Olympic Team – Neckties featured multi-color dots showing the country they came from.
- Serbia – Most noteworthy was the stripe skirts and great shoes.
- Sweden – Hoodie was a big hit.
United States – Ralph Lauren
Since 2012, Ralph Lauren has dressed our Olympic heroes in Berets and ties. While this time around, many of the athletes were dressed in blue blazers, white denim pants, and red, white and blue boat shoes. In addition, the shirt featured below resembled a Russian flag.
Since Giselle Bundchen is one of the most iconic Brazilians, it makes sense she was chosen to open the Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
Olympics and Fashion
While there are many well known Olympian names, new generations of athletes are being drawn on for fashion, lifestyle, and sporting brands. Fashion has been capturing gym, leisure, and sports clothes with increased attention on fitness.
Most of all, fashion and sports are becoming big business. Many fashion magazines are featuring well-known models photographed with sports and Olympians. As a result of the sports and fashion world colliding, we can expect to see new styles emerging from the results of the 2016 Olympics.
Summer Olympics Closing Ceremony
In conclusion, the summer Olympics closing ceremony will take place on the evening of August 21st at the Maracana Stadium. Closing of the Olympic event includes closing speeches, lowering the flags and extinguishing the flames.
