First and foremost, the Great American Smokeout provides anyone who smokes the opportunity to quit. At the same time, this event occurs yearly on the third Thursday of November.

Great American Smokeout History

Since the 1970’s, smoking and secondhand smoke has been a common issue. Since the 1970’s, there has been many events in various locations. However in 1976, the California division of the American Cancer Society was successful in getting almost one million smokers to quit for the day. While this marked the official date of the Great American Smokeout, this date has grown throughout the United States year after year.

For any smoker, this is a chance to quit smoking. However if you’re a non-smoker, use this day to encourage any smoker you know to quit. Although this day is dedicated to urge any smoker to quit for 24 hours; hopefully you can encourage any smoker to quit permanently.
