Breast Cancer Awareness Month is October. Of course, Breast Cancer Awareness Month hopes to get everyone involved worldwide. Since many individuals and families have been impacted by breast cancer, let’s stand up to cancer this month.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women. After all, one in every eight women in the United States develops Breast Cancer. There are many different types of Breast Cancer. Usually, a lump in the breast or under the armpit is a sign of concern. Another sign or symptom is:
- Bloody nipple discharge
- Inverted nipple
- Breast pain
- Nipple pain
- Change in the size or shape of breast or nipple
- Orange peel texture
- Breast skin dimple
- Swollen lymph nodes in the neck or armpit
Treatment for Breast Cancer
First, treatment for Breast Cancer depends on the type of cancer and stage. Second, the best treatment for cancer is by either a mammogram or biopsy. There are four different types of biopsies.
- Excisional biopsy – this is the removal of an entire amount of tissue
- Incisional biopsy – this is the removal of an entire lump or sample of tissue
- Core – removal of tissue with a wide needle
- Fine Needle Aspiration – removal of tissue or fluid using a fine needle
Furthermore, a decision is based on the test results. In any event, treatment will determine what will work best.
American Cancer Center
Additionally, the American Cancer Center recommendation is for yearly mammograms for all Women between 45 – 54 yearly. Additionally, Women 55 or older should have a mammogram every two years. In addition, any Women with any risk factor could change the guideline.
Male Breast Cancer
While breast cancer in males is rare, there are a higher number of new cases each year. Symptoms are similar to Women in this type of cancer. Moreover, this is usually seen in men over the age of 60.
