So, October is the month there are multiple events to increase awareness of the disease.

In 1993, a tent was set up in Central Park by FFANY. And, in 1995 QVC entered into a partnership with FFANY. With the generous donations of many Companies; the charitable event “FFANY SHOES ON SALE” was conceived. Hence, this event has sold over one million pairs of shoes and donated more than $46 million for breast cancer research and education.

Furthermore, FFANY has reached out to millions of women with an important message about cancer awareness.’

Fashion Targets Breast Cancer – Fashion Designers

In 1994 Ralph Lauren lost a close friend to the disease and launched Fashion Targets Breast Cancer. Moreover, in 1994 this united the world of fashion as a force against this disease. The unmistakable Target t-shirt propelled the campaign into the public consciousness.

Fashion Targets Breast Cancer has evolved into a very powerful partnership between Fashion and Charity.

This partnership has attracted the support of some of the biggest names in fashion such as:

    • Kate Moss
    • Elle McPherson,
    • Cindy Crawford
    • Gisele Bundchen
    • Claudia Schiffer
    • Naomi Campbell

The assistance of many celebrities, photographers, and musicians has led to a sense of style and empowerment. In fact, the t-shirt worn by people worldwide has helped provide quality health care, education, and outreach to as many women as possible.

Also, the Pink Ribbon symbolizes Breast Cancer Awareness. And, Susan G. Komen for the Cure has used the color Pink since its inception in 1982. Susan G. Komen addresses cancer on multiple fronts such as research, community health, global outreach, and policy initiatives in order to make a big impact on the disease. Finally, a Breast Cancer 3-day event is in many cities throughout the United States.

Breast Cancer

Male Breast Cancer is rare. Hence, it is often overlooked.

In 2009, the Male Advocacy groups, Out of the Shadow of Pink, A Man’s Pink, and the Brandon Greening Foundation for Breast Cancer for Men joined together to globally establish the third week of October as “Male Breast Cancer Awareness Week”

In summary, October is a month there is a lot of public outreach for this disease.

Of course, it shouldn’t be the only month. Furthermore, this type of cancer can strike women or men, young and old.  Additionally, we all need to be aware of the care and treatment available.

Whether you donate regularly, raise money for awareness, or wear something pink; there is a lot that can be done to help support this disease.

By carrying a Handbag that shows the Pink Ribbon; I’m proud to carry my purse in showing my support for this disease.

As always, I welcome your comments.
