It has been 8 months ago that I lost my Sister and today I want to wish her Happy Birthday Edie. My Sister, Edie who died over 8 months ago is frozen in my mind. Today – I celebrate her life in spirit and memory as she would have turned 46 today. I think of Edie every day as I see her bright smile and twinkling blue eyes.
Today is the first birthday of Edie’s that I’m unsure on how to approach the day. Shortly after Edie’s passing, my immediate family life changed. Edie left behind two beautiful boys, Jack and Nick. Every time my Husband and I spend the day with the boys, they put a smile on my face. Their personalities and expressions remind me of my Sister often.
So, I will spend the day reflecting on my beautiful Sister Edie in thought and memory. Today – I have a heavy heart. Because of how Edie died, it has made it harder for me to cope. I want to remember her today for the special person she was. Of course, I’m remembering all the fun times we had living together, vacationing in Hawaii, and watching Sex and the City weekly.
Happy Birthday Edie
Every year, Edie and I started a tradition on Birthdays. We each bought the same card year after year. Certain years, the card would be a little bit different; but a similar message. Every time I would see this card or a similar variation, I would stock up. Unfortunately this year, I won’t be able to give her the card personally, but will continue to give her a variation through other means on her Birthday.
When you open the card, it reads from the other one in the family. I will miss sharing this Birthday ritual with Edie.
It is important for me to remember my Sister and her twinkling blue eyes and beautiful smile on her Birthday today, as well as every day. However, the best way for me to honor my Sister; Edie’s memory is to share my love, peace and compassion today with you.
