Kinky Boots Musical Hirschfeld Theatre

Together with friends, we saw Kinky Boots Musical at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.  Due to my love affair with shoes, I thought this would be the ideal show to see.

Hirschfeld Theatre

Al Hirschfeld Theatre is located in the theater district in New York.  Because the theater was built in 1924, the rows are tight.  If you have long legs or are tall, expect to feel claustrophobic.  Although the rows are a tight fit, every seat seems to have a good view of the stage.

Because the theater is small, it is hard to get around.  If you have to get up during the performance, it is nearly impossible.  Also if you have anyone tall in front of you, it is hard to see the stage.  The theater is beautiful, however needs a remodel.

Kinky Boots Musical

Kinky Boots is an enjoyable musical with music and lyrics by Cindy Lauper.  This show’s inspiration is about Charlie Price who inherits a shoe factory from his father.  With the shoe factory failing, Charlie forms a relationship with a Cabaret performer and Drag Queen, Lola to produce a line of high heel boots for Cross Dressers to save the business.

In the first place, Charlie is trying to adjust to running the factory when his dad dies.  Charlie has to reinvent the business, product and himself.  Nevertheless Lola has Charlie realize there is a market for Cross Dressers who need good footwear.  Also, Charlie’s fiancé strives for a different lifestyle.  Challenges occur.  So transforming business requires a new way of looking at things.

Furthermore, flamboyant drag queens, touching moments and music have you dancing in your seat.  Again, dynamic performances stood out throughout the show.

Conclusion

Certainly, Kinky Boots musical is one of the most entertaining shows.  Of course, the drag queens provided a lot of comedy.  With this in mind, Kinky Boots has a profound message.  Moreover the powerful message the show sent was to show people they can change the world. “Be yourself.”   “Accept people for who they are.”  Not only do you walk away with a spring in your step, you also leave with a cool vibe.

In conclusion, do not miss this show.  It will have you on your feet.  Ready to dance?  In other words, good music and the story have a lot of depth.  Overall a great show to see next time you’re in New York.  Have you seen Kinky Boots musical?
