Levi Strauss Day is today, February 26th. Although almost everyone has worn a pair of Levi’s at some point in their lives; you may not know about this day.
Levi Strauss
In 1829, he was born in Germany. When he moved to San Francisco in 1847 at the age of 18 with his mother; he joined his brothers in New York to help them with their wholesale dry goods business known as J. Strauss Brothers & Co. Moreover, he helped his brothers sell supplies.
In 1853, Levi became an American citizen. He moved to San Francisco where he opened his own wholesale business which was called Levi Strauss & Co.. He sold goods from his brothers’ company in New York. At the same time, one of his customers, Jacob W. Davis went into business with him to produce jeans. So, if you are wondering who Davis is – he was the one who came up with the design after receiving a request from one of his customers. Due to Davis not having enough equity to handle the demand to produce these pants; Levi stepped in to patent the jeans.
From that time, they became successful business partners. Although he started producing these jeans in 1871; it wasn’t until 1873 he patented this style of pants.

Although the Strauss family didn’t have a lot of money; they worked hard to achieve their goals. Indeed, the Levi Strauss story is considered to be the “American Dream”.
When the company became more successful; Levi made a lot of donations to various charities and orphanages.
Of course, over the last several decades, Levis have become a staple for most individuals.
