National Autism Awareness Month

National Autism Awareness Month

April is the month to recognize National Autism Awareness Month. Of course, you should recognize this every month. In the first place, it is important to be aware of those who live with autism.

Autism Awareness Month

The Autism Society launched National Awareness Month to ensure each person living with this disease can attain the highest quality of life. Because autism is a complicated developmental issue, it is important to understand a person’s ability to communicate with others.

New Perspective

It is important to embrace a new perspective on anyone having autism. When someone is autistic, they may have trouble interacting with others. Recently, I contacted a close friend of mine whose close friend’s Son is autistic.

Although, many of us are aware of autism, we don’t have the capacity to understand how someone struggles with everyday tasks. After researching and learning more about the topic, I understood a lot more about autism than I knew beforehand. One of the most important things to understand about autism, is many individuals have a hard time with physical contact. Due to many children experiencing bad reactions from others, they tend to shy away from contact.

Compassion and Understanding

I cannot emphasize the importance to appeal to anyone who knows someone who is autistic. Show compassion. Many children grow up without siblings or friends.

In addition, it is important to understand inclusivity. Since, children can be cruel, it is important we educate them to understand the importance of including anyone who is handicapped or with a learning disability, in any activity or conversation.

Because my friend spends a good amount of time with her friend’s autistic son, she speaks to him with compassion and engages him in conversation. Moreover, she has told me that her friend’s son is very intelligent. Although, someone may have a disability, it is important to know that many living with autism have a high-intelligence.

Rainman

I can remember seeing Rainman in the late 80’s. Wow – I’m aging myself. This movie taught me a lot about how to deal with anyone living with any type of condition. Also, this movie showed the progression of a relationship between two brothers. During their journey, we learnt more about acceptance and intellect. Of course, this movie resonated with many.

Involvement

There are many ways to get involved in the autism community. The Autism Society strives to provide the community with the resources available to them.  In addition, you can attend an event. Also, you can stay up-to-date in almost any state.

The National Autism Awareness Month hopes to support all individuals and families living with autism.

Conclusion

Autism is treatable. Although the children don’t outgrow autism, we can provide help for them to have a better life. Help those with autism lead a better life. In conclusion, wear the Autism Awareness Month ribbon.

Improve the lives of those living with autism by a donation to the Autism Society.
