New England Patriots Super Bowl LII Loss

New England Patriots Super Bowl LII Loss

After last years exciting win in the Super Bowl; the Patriots lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII. Although the Patriots have been to the Super Bowl 7 times since 2002; the games have all been close.

Super Bowl LII Hype

As always, there was a lot of hype before the game. So both teams were the Number One Seed in their conference. Visit my New England Patriots Number One Seed post to read more about the Patriot’s season. So last time these two teams matched up in the Super Bowl was in 2005. When they met in 2005; the score was 24 – 21.

Although the Patriots were the favorite to win Super Bowl LII by 4 to 4.5 points; they lost to the Eagles with minutes remaining.

Super Bowl LII First Half

The Patriots haven’t scored in the first quarter in their last seven appearances. But, they broke the streak by scoring a field goal in the first quarter. In my opinion, the Philadelphia Eagles seemed very comfortable in the first half. In addition, the defense and offense weren’t in sync for the Patriots in the first half.

Justine Timberlake’s Halftime Show

No doubt, there was a mixed reaction when Justin Timberlake was announced as the performer for the half time show. After he ripped off a piece of clothing baring Janet Jackson’s breast in 2004; would Janet Jackson make an appearance?

So, this years performance was about Timberlake and his band, The Tennessee Kids. Similarly, to Lady Gaga’s performance last year; this performance was choreographed well. In my opinion, Timberlake brought a lot of energy to his performance. Additionally, he did a nice performance at the piano. Finally, his performance ended on a high note with “I’ve Got this Feeling”.

Super Bowl LII Second Half

With the Patriots down by 10 points at the halftime; they started the third quarter with a touchdown catch by Rob Gronkowski. Moreover, the Patriots defense allowed the Eagles to get back on third downs. In fact, the Eagles were able to capitalize on too many third downs.

Finally in the fourth quarter; the Patriots had their first lead of the night. However, I thought the biggest problem was the Patriots defense. For me, this continued to be an issue throughout the game. At times, the Patriots looked like themselves; but again, the Eagles offense and defense prevailed. In addition, the Eagles Coach kept their offense on the field for several 4th downs in the game. And, that was the key to their win against the Patriots.

With three minutes remaining; the Eagles were able to regain the lead. Tom Brady lost the ball and Philadelphia Eagles won their first Super Bowl with a score of 41 – 33. Finally, I prevailed and won my bet of double or nothing against my Hubby.

In summary, this was a great Super Bowl game.

As always, I welcome your comments.
