Put On Your Own Shoes Day December 6th

Put on your own shoes day is today! So, if you never heard about this before; I’m going to share everything you need to know about this fun fashion holiday.

Put on Your Own Shoes Day

Though this isn’t an official holiday where you will get the day off from work; you can still enjoy the day by wearing your favorite shoe styles or buying a new pair.

In the first place, no one knows how this day was started or why.

So, the first shoe style that emerged was in 1250 BC which consisted of a sandal style that featured a palm tree, papyrus fiber, and raw leather.

In fact, the oldest preserved style is estimated to be around 5000 years old. Initially, styles were basic and were used to protect your feet.

In the Renaissance period, European royalty wore high heels to show off their status. At the same time, these were one of the first styles of modern shoes. From that time period, footwear became part of knowing someone’s social class. Of course, times have changed!

Moreover, new styles are emerging all the time. Footwear continues to be a huge area of interest for designers, fashionistas, and retailers.

How will you Celebrate Put on Your Own Shoes Day

So, are you looking for ways you can celebrate this day? Hence, these are a few suggestions I have for you.

    • Buy a pair of shoes you have had your eyes on. Indeed, there is no better day than today to treat yourself to a new pair.
    • Donate or give a style to someone that you don’t wear anymore. Or, if you have a pair new pair you have never worn; give them to someone who may not have the money to buy a new pair for themselves. In many parts of the world; people do not have shoes. So, the need to help someone in need of proper footwear is essential. To read more about this; be sure to check out my Are you Ready to Celebrate National Shoe the World Day post.
    • If you have an infant or someone who has trouble putting on their shoes; teach them how to tie their shoes or the best way to slip them on.
