Sox Clinch Second Straight Division Title

Sox Clinch Second Straight Division Title

So, for the second straight year, the Red Sox clinch their second straight division title. With the 6-3 win over the Houston Astros on Saturday afternoon; the Sox will face the Astros in the American League Division series.

Sox Clinch American League Division Title

In the first place, the Sox tried to clinch the division for the last few games. Now, that the Sox have won the division, they can prepare for their post season meeting.

The Astros have outscored the Sox in their first two games in this series. When the Sox scored first, I breathed a sigh of relief. However, in the seventh inning, they pulled Drew Pomeranz and immediately saw a 5-0 lead in jeopardy. Pomeranz was replaced by Carson Smith. And, Smith gave up two runs. In, came David Price who was able to get the job done. Indeed, I breathed a sigh of relief.

As the game continued, Mookie Betts had a home run, which increased the lead. But, in the 9th inning, Farrell brought in Craig Kimbrel. I was a little concerned when Kimbrel gave up a solo home run and then a double. Ultimately, he was able to get the final out.

Of course, the Sox then went into the Clubhouse to celebrate their second divisional championship.

At any rate, the Sox can now rest Chris Sale for the final game of the regular season. Since Farrell can skip Sale today, he will be in line to start Game 1 of the ALDS.

The Red Sox will open their division series on the road in Houston on Thursday, October 5th. Because the teams saw a lot of each other the last four days; they will indeed be seeing more of each other over the next 10 days.

Although both teams are division champs, which one will perform better in the divisional series? Will the Astros potent offense weaken the Red Sox pitching?

To sum up, I’m looking forward to the divisional series and hoping the Red Sox offense performs better than they have the last week. Also, I hope the Sox starting pitching doesn’t give up as many runs in the early innings as they have over the last week.

So, we’re off to Houston this week for Game 1 in the ALDS.

As always, I welcome your comments.
