Boston Red Sox Trade Transactions 2018

Boston Red Sox Trade Transactions 2018

So, Boston Red Sox Trade activity started before today’s deadline. Although today at 4:00 p.m. is the non-waiver trade deadline; there can still be trades if a team places a player on waivers after the deadline. When the season first started, there was a lot of hope for the Red Sox. Be sure to visit my Red Sox Opening Day 2018 Season post.

Boston Red Sox Trade Activity

So back in June, the Sox first signed  three-time, All Star Brandon Phillips to a minor league deal. And, than the first player the Red Sox acquired was Steven Pearce from the Toronto Blue Jays. For Pearce and cash considerations, the Sox traded Santiago Espinal. Ironically, this happened in the same division.

Another trade that happened in our division was the Sox traded minor league pitcher, Jalen Beeks to the Tampa Bay Rays for Nathan Eovaldi. And, today’s news is Dave Dombrowski acquired second baseman, Ian Kinsler and cash considerations for two minor league pitchers from the Los Angeles Angels.

Trade Deadline

Since the American League has been very active in adding bullpen help; the Sox haven’t acquired any relief help as of yet. As we approach the last hour, will the Sox be successful in acquiring another arm for the bullpen? And, will they find their 2019 closer? Because Craig Kimbrel will be a free agent, chances are the Sox will not sign him.

Due to many pitchers not going the full game, baseball has become more dependent on the bullpen. Equally important, Red Sox Nation hope they will acquire another arm. Meanwhile, my eyes and ears remain wide open as the clock is winding down.

In summary, the Sox seem to be done after acquiring Ian Kinsler. As teams see their playoff hopes die, will certain relief pitchers be placed on waivers? With the Cleveland IndiansNew York Yankees and Houston Astros all adding relief pitchers; have the Red Sox done enough for October ball.

So, unless we hear something in the next few minutes; it seems the team didn’t make any moves at the deadline.

As always, I welcome your comments.
