Boston Red Sox Trade Activity

Boston Red Sox Trade Activity

So, the trade deadline is behind us and the Red Sox trade activity was disappointing. Since the all star break, the Sox have a losing record.

Red Sox Trade Activity

Last Tuesday, the Red Sox acquired Eduardo Nunez from the San Francisco Giants. For this trade, the Sox gave up Gregory Santos and Shaun Anderson. With Nunez being a free agent this Winter, was this a good move for a short-term rental player?

In addition, the Sox acquired closer, Addison Reed from the Mets for three minor league players. Indeed, this trade can help both teams. Hence, the Sox were in need of another bullpen arm. And, the Mets need to build up their bullpen in the off-season. But, again this is a short-term rental as Reed will be a free agent this Winter.

Did the Red Sox Lose Ground in the Al East

So, many Sports Analysts thought the New York Yankees knocked it out of the park with their trade activity. As I said in my prior post – Boston Red Sox Biggest Trade Needs, the Sox needs were a third baseman and a power bat. Although they addressed one of these problems by picking up Nunez, they didn’t pick up a power hitter.

Since I was at last night’s game, I spoke to many Red Sox personnel and they were in agreement with my comments. For me, this team has not played well overall. At the same time, their consistent lack of power hitting, clutch base hits and games lost by the bullpen has been disappointing.

Boston Red Sox Season

Because the last few weeks of play for the team have been bad, I’m unsure this team will make the playoffs. Also, I think the Yankees have made some good deals and seem better equipped to make the playoffs this season.

In addition, the Sox had several issues recently. David Price’s dispute with Dennis Eckersley has been a big story in the Boston Sports channels. For me, there has been a clear lack of leadership on this year’s team. With David Ortiz gone, the Sox are struggling.

Moreover, I think the team hasn’t hit well all season. Many of their players haven’t hit well all season. When they have had the chance to score runs, they have left men on base. This has been a regular occurrence for this team.

To sum up, I thought it was important that the Red Sox trade activity be dynamic. Because they weren’t, will they pick up a bat on waivers. For a player to be traded after the deadline, they must clear revocable waivers. Once a player clears waivers, a club can make a claim within 48 hours.

In conclusion, I don’t see this year’s team going very far as they lack consistency. In summary, they will have to wait until the off-season to fix their problems.

As always, I welcome your comments.
