Boston Red Sox Winter Baseball Meetings

Boston Red Sox Winter Baseball Meetings

So, the Winter Baseball Meetings have concluded. And, the Boston Red Sox had a dire need for a power bat. But, have yet to make a move.

When David Ortiz retired, there was a big gap left for the Red Sox to fill. Although they won the division in 2016; I felt there was a need for the Sox to replace Ortiz’s power numbers.

Because the Red Sox have been eliminated early in the playoffs the last two years; they have several needs to address in the off-season.

So, with the Red Sox needs being clear, they have yet to sign a power bat. With the Winter Meetings over; the Sox best chance of getting a power bat is through a free agency signing.

Do the Red Sox have something up their sleeve? There has been rumbling of them looking at J.D. Martinez and Eric Hosmer. Because there was so much focus on the Japanese two-position player, Shohei Ohtani and Giancarlo Stanton, not much happened with some of the other big name free agents available.

Since Scott Boras represents both Martinez and Hosmer, he is hoping the Red Sox sign both players. In my opinion, I would like to see the Red Sox pick up some additional relievers.

Because there are so many elite players still available who are Free Agents; where will they sign. Some of the other elite Free Agents available are:

  • Jake Arrieta
  • Lorenzo Cain
  • Mike Moustakas
  • Yu Darvish

As we know, as it gets closer to Spring Training, some players may lower their price.

Who Will the Red Sox Sign

Meanwhile, if you know me, you know the Red Sox is one of my passions. Since the end of the season, I have been following the team relentlessly. Ultimately, I would like them  to sign both Martinez and Hosmer as well as some good relief pitchers. Also, I would like the Red Sox to resign Eduardo Nunez. I thought he was a good fit for the team and did some great things throughout the season.

Dave Dombrowski has informed his team to have their phones and laptops nearby during the holiday season. As we get closer to year-end; can the Red Sox receive a nice year end bonus by signing some of the big name Free Agent player’s that are available. So, the Sox are patiently awaiting something to happen. Will their patience pay off?

As always, I welcome your comments.
