Boston Red Sox Expectations

So today begins a new season. As the Sox begin their season, what can we expect for this year’s team? Last year, the Red Sox had 108 wins and 54 losses. With a lackluster Spring training and a quiet off-season; this team’s expectations are high for many of their elite players.

In 2018, Mookie Betts was the MVP. In addition to Betts winning the MVP last year; he also won the batting title and a Golden Glove. Of course, we can expect similar results both in his batting average; but also in continuing to make impressive catches in the outfield.

Along with Betts, the Red Sox have Andrew Benintendi and Jackie Bradley Jr. making up one of the strongest outfields in the MLB. In Spring Training, Bradley showed a lot of improvement in his swing and is poised to have a much more productive year at the plate. Benintendi is entering his fourth season in the majors and has consistently shown improvement each season.

In addition to the teams elite outfield, J.D. Martinez had one of the best season’s in his career last season. With Martinez’s discipline at the plate, fans can expect to see much of the same this year.

Boston Red Sox Expectations – Pitching

Since Chris Sale just signed a five year contract extension with the team; the Sox can expect great things to come not only this year, but for many years to come.

Not only do the Red Sox have Sale, but they also have David Price who overcame his past demons in the playoffs last year. In addition to Sale and Price, the team signed Nathan Eovaldi in the off-season to a four year contract. Also, the Sox have prior Cy Young Winner, Rick Porcello and Eduardo Rodriguez to round off their starters.

No doubt, one of the biggest issues facing the team is there are several unanswered bullpen questions. With the departure of Joe Kelly and Craig Kimbrel; who will be the Red Sox closer?

In summary, the Boston Red Sox expectations will continue to be high for Red Sox Nation. With a core of elite players, this team should continue to perform at a high level.

As always, I welcome your comments.
