Habit Forming Exercise Tips

Habit Forming Exercise Tips

My best advice for surviving bathing suit season is to exercise.  If you have trouble exercising, try the following tips as part of your everyday lifestyle.

  • Find something you like and you’re more likely to do it regularly.  For instance, you may like softball, volleyball, dancing, or running, join a club, or find a class.
  • Change your routine – switching things up keeps it interesting.  Many get bored doing the same thing over and over again.
  • Try something new.  By participating in something new or interesting, you’re keeping things fresh.
  • Schedule time with yourself.  It is important to have some alone time.  Find time in the morning, at lunch, or in the evening for some downtime.  One of my favorite alone things to do is to find a shady area outdoors and read a book.  See my Summer reading post.
  • Find someone to join you in an activity or class.  When you have someone joining you, it is easier to stick to a routine.
  • Set goals.  Set a plan in motion.   If you’re looking to lose weight, start a diet.  Reward yourself when you have reached your goal.  Some non-food rewards to consider are shopping for something new, treat yourself to a spa treatment or take a mini-vacation.
  • Have reasonable goals.  Don’t set yourself up to fail.  Find something you like to do.  When you enjoy something, it is easier to continue participating.

Habit Forming Exercise

Challenge yourself by participating in something you enjoy.  Some habit forming exercise to consider are:

  • Walking – Take a long walk on the beach, a park, or a neighborhood.
  • Bicycling – Cycling gives you good cardiovascular exercise.  You can bicycle either by yourself or with someone.
  • Tennis – Even if you’re not a serious tennis player, you can enjoy volleying the ball back and forth.  This is a fun activity to do in the morning or evening.
  • Volleyball – It is fun to play on the beach or with a group of people.
  • Softball – There are many softball leagues in towns and cities everywhere.

In any event, habit forming exercise tips can keep you in tip-top shape year round.
