Massachusetts Voters Legalize Marijuana

Massachusetts voters jumped on the bandwagon by legalizing marijuana on the November ballot. As of December 15, 2016, marijuana will be fully legal in Massachusetts. Hence, it will be subject to rules and taxes like alcohol.

There has been a lot of news about cannabis in Massachusetts. Also, medical marijuana has been for sale for approximately a year. Since September 2015 many individuals have received a prescription for medical marijuana by their doctor.

Selling Marijuana in Massachusetts

If you’re ready to jump on board; you can apply for a medical marijuana dispensary license. Many cities and towns in Massachusetts are becoming involved in the push for marijuana.

Massachusetts must decide how to deal with retail establishments selling marijuana. Although it will be legal; it won’t be for sale in the state until January 1, 2018. Because of the delay in retail sales; Massachusetts will need to determine how to regulate this new legal business. As more retailers receive approval; the state can expect to benefit from an increase in sales tax revenue and real estate.

It has been a big year for marijuana. Proponents won big time. With legalization in Massachusetts; many are curious to see what happens next. For many, marijuana is a way to relax. For others, it relieves pain or treats a medical condition.

When the law goes into effect on December 15th; anyone who is 21 years old or older can now possess marijuana.  Also, each person can keep up to 10 ounces in their primary residence. In addition, they can grow up to six plants per person or up to 12 to a home. Individual landlords can prohibit tenants from growing on their property at their discretion. Hence, you cannot go outside and light up a joint. In addition, you will not be able to smoke or consume marijuana in any public building, or near a school. Edible marijuana products will also be legal.

  • Ointment
  • Oils
  • Food products

Conclusion

As a state, Massachusetts can expect to benefit from legal cannabis in 2018. Also, tax dollars will flow into the state. Furthermore, many more business and jobs will be created. In conclusion, Massachusetts can expect to see marijuana grow to a 1.1-billion-dollar industry by 2020.
