National Chocolate Chip Day May

So, today is National Chocolate Chip Day. Of course, there is nothing better than chocolate. Ultimately, yummy and gooey come to mind when I think of these warm cookies coming straight from the oven.

What is National Chocolate Chip Day

In the first place, this day all began at the Toll House Inn in Whitman, Massachusetts. Sadly, a fire destroyed the Inn and it was never rebuilt.

First, and foremost, Ruth Graves Wakefield planed on making a cookie and decided to add chunks of a chocolate bar to the mixture. By accident, the chocolate bar didn’t mix as well as she hoped; however the cookie had a mix of chocolate throughout. And, that is how the chocolate chip cookie began.

Since these cookies became an overnight success, Ruth signed an agreement with Nestle in 1939 to add her recipe to the chocolate bar packaging in return for a lifetime supply of chocolate. Certainly, a delicious deal was struck.

Chocolate Chip Delights

So today, I’m going to share some of my secrets to making the perfect chocolate chip cookie. In a mixing bowl, stir in flour, butter, vanilla, eggs, sugar (brown and white),(sugar substitutes optional)baking soda and salt. Now, add your favorite chocolate chip flavor. Since I march to the beat of my own drum; I tend to add a few different types of chocolate to my recipe.

You then drop a tablespoon of the mixture onto a cookie sheet. Consequently, make sure you leave at least two inches between the mixture so it doesn’t all goop together. Bake for approximately 10 – 15 minutes until you see a golden color.

In my opinion, there is nothing like a delicious gooey chocolate chip cookie right out of the oven. In summary, make your favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe and don’t forget to throw in some extra chocolate chips into your mixture today.

As always, I welcome your comments.

Happy Chocolate Chip Day!
