Today is National Wear Red Day. First and foremost, the first Friday in February has been designated by the awareness campaign, “Heart Truth” to wear red in support of women’s heart health.

When it comes to your heart; just a few small changes in your diet and lifestyle can make a difference. So, are you ready to make a few changes in your diet. Keep reading for some tips.

Heart Health Diet

When it comes to your diet; cut down in your portion size. At the same time, it is best to eat a few small meals and snacks throughout the day. Indeed, what you eat is important. Try to cut down on trans fat food. Also, cut down on sugar. By limiting unhealthy food; you will be improving your diet.

Another great source for your diet is to introduce whole grains into your diet. For instance, there are many whole grain breads, and pasta’s to choose from. Try to limit your intake of food such as egg noodles, cake and white bread.

American Heart Association’s Diet and Lifestyle Recommendations

Of course, a healthy diet and lifestyle is the best way to prevent heart disease. By eating a mix of fruit, vegetables, whole grains, fish, poultry, nuts and limiting trans fat; you will be on the right path. When you’re dining out; take home half of your meal. If you’re dining with a friend; perhaps you can share a meal.

It is recommended that you get in 150 minutes of exercise a week. If you compete at a high level or do a rigorous activity; 75 minutes of exercise is recommended a week.
