I recently finished reading Nine Women One Dress. Because I’m a fashionista and an avid reader, I enjoyed this witty, cute novel. While the story is centered on New York, its focus is on a beautiful dress and a bit of magic.

Although this story is about one little black dress, it is so much more.
When you think about the LBD, it is associated with an iconic style that every woman should have as part of their wardrobe.

Nine Women One Dress
So, this novel is set in Manhattan, New York.
Though the setting for this story is in New York, it centers around nine different Women and the dress of the season. At the same time, this black dress fits each of these Women perfectly and allows each one to take on a new identity.
Morris Siegel is retiring after decades of being the leading garment district pattern maker. In the beginning of the story, Morris says, “A beautiful dress knows no age – it is bouncless – A beautiful dress holds a little magic in it.”
Indeed, his words hold to this day. In the same fashion, styles have a way of transforming and is a powerful tool for the way women express themselves.
Since Morris is gearing up for retirement, he has one last pattern to create.
Of course, the perfect dress of the season is created!
Characters in This Story
Moreover, the nine women in this story each have their own identity.
In this story, we follow each character.
- Andie – She is a private detective whose specialty is infidelity.
- Brown graduate – She recently graduated. She is faking a luxury lifestyle and sharing details on social media.
- Felicia – She is a loyal assistant who has secretly been in love with her boss for over 17 years.
- Hollywood Star – She is making her Broadway debut.
- Natalie – Works in Bloomingdale’s and is getting over the loss of her relationship ending.
- Ruthie – She is an older colleague and works with Natalie
- Sally Ann – She is a young model from Alabama
Each of them has a different identity, but their lives are centered on how this size, small transforms their life and brings romance to the wearer.
As we follow the dress of the season, we see it go from runway to the ladies dress department at Bloomingdale’s and into the live of these different women.

At the same time, this story marries fashion and romance.
In my opinion, this story is a delightful read, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I found it an easy read and was anxious to see what happened to each character when they wore the LBD. Did this LBD hold magic?
Indeed, each of these women was happy and connected by something as simple as an LBD.
In summary, this book holds appeal for many different people. The book’s story is about nine different lives surrounding New York, Bloomingdale’s, hotels, parks, and the theatre.
