Did you know today is Spouses Day? Well, don’t fret if you didn’t know about this day; as neither did I. Since I’m married; I think this sounds like a fun day to enjoy my better half.

Spouses Day

Although there is no origin of who created this day; there is a similar one known as Military Spouses Day. Military Spouses Day was started in 1984 by President Ronald Reagan and is always celebrated right before Mother’s Day.

With Valentine’s Day around the corner; this day is the perfect time to appreciate your partner in crime. Although this day isn’t about giving presents; it is a day to appreciate everything your better half does.

Indeed, throughout a marriage; we sometimes forget to appreciate all the little things our partner does. Personally, I know I’m guilty of this. So, make sure you let him or her know how much you appreciate them.

What is the Key to a Successful Marriage

Indeed, there are certain things that are essential for a successful marriage. Start and finish each and every day by acknowledging your other half. So, the following are some tips:

  • When the going get tough, hang in there.
  • Smile. Start and end your day by putting on your “Happy Face”.
  • Of course, your attitude matters. How you approach a situation makes a difference. Whether you had a disagreement with your mate or they caught you in a bad mood; turn this negative into a positive.
  • Are you looking for a change? Moreover, the most important thing to keep in mind when it comes to change is usually this comes from ourselves.
  • Finally, if you had a fight, it doesn’t mean things are bad. Consequently, you can turn a lemon into lemonade.

How to Celebrate Spouses Day

Are you ready for some fun ways to celebrate this day? Well, I have a few things you can do to surprise your partner.

  • In the first place, begin the day by hugging and kissing your other half.
  • Compliment your partner.
  • Surprise your partner throughout the day with fun messages either by phone or text. Also, you can hide a few notes in his or her pockets.
  • Think outside the box. See my above idea. For instance, create a path to where your spouse can find you. Or, dedicate a song to him or her on the radio. Another suggestion I have is to plan to surprise your significant other. Of course, you can get creative with this by making a scrapbook of your adventures together or you can plan a new excursion.
  • At the same time, it is important that you carve out some alone time today or anytime.

Consequently, there are other days to recognize your husband or wife. Be sure to check out my National Husband Appreciation Day and Wife Appreciation Day posts on other ways to appreciate your spouse.

As always, I welcome your comments on how you will be celebrating Spouses Day.
