When visiting Washington DC last week, I was excited to see the cherry blossom trees. Due to the winter snowstorm that affected the Northeast two weeks ago, the cherry blossoms will be delayed. Cold weather, hi-winds and snow took out some of the blooms in their final stages. For the blossoms still remaining, the color may not reach its peak this year.
Washington DC
When my Husband and I arrived early, Monday morning, our plan was to visit the National Cherry Blossom Festivals. Again, due to the weather, we learnt there wasn’t a lot of events going on in the vicinity.
Because we were staying at the Fairmont hotel, we decided to walk to Georgetown. Although this was my first stay at the Fairmont, Washington, D.C., the hospitality I experienced was welcoming. While my Husband and I waited for our room to be prepared, we enjoyed sitting in the lobby area overlooking the courtyard. Also, their decor of gold and silver harmonize well with black.
Georgetown Stroll
So, my Hubby and I took a stroll in Georgetown to see the beautiful scenery and shops. The buildings have plenty of charm and the Chesapeake and Ohio canal is a place to take a moment to enjoy. Of course, we stopped to take in the area and saw many walking, running and cycling.
While walking a little more, we decided to stop in a quaint restaurant for a light lunch. Lunch was enjoyed at Piccolo where we experienced good food and service. Our next stop was venturing into several shops in the area. At the end of our day, we stopped into Georgetown Cupcake. Although it was early in the afternoon, there was a line outside their door. I couldn’t resist ordering a few to take back home with me. Of course, I’m happy I did as they were delicious.
Since I’m a foodie, I was looking forward to dining at RPM Italian. Although the aesthetic and vibe of the restaurant was upbeat, the service and food were very disappointing. Unfortunately, the service and the food didn’t live up to its reputation. The rosemary Focaccia we ordered came out burnt and had little flavor. In addition, the pasta dishes my Husband and I had, we didn’t love. Overall, there was too much salt in their food. With this in mind, I recommend trying another restaurant.
Conclusion
Because our trip to Washington DC was short, we enjoyed a lovely breakfast at our hotel the next day. As we finished up an appointment I had scheduled in Maryland, we departed back to Boston later that evening.
In conclusion, Washington DC is a great place to visit with a lot of things to do. Although we didn’t get to see the Cherry Blossoms in bloom, we hope to return in the near future.
