So, the 2026 Red Sox Trade Deadline is today at 6:00 p.m, August 3rd. In prior years, the deadline was at 4:00 p.m. Due to scheduling conflicts, the Commissioner’s office adjusted the date and time.

Many analysts thought the team would end up with 90 wins. However, the team has been terrible most of the season.
Though the team has been dismal most of the season, since June the team has turned things around. In fact, on June 24th, they were 14 games under 500. However, since late June, their record has been 28 – 6. And, in July, they went 21 – 4.
Of course, since their dominant surge from the middle of June to today, they are only 5 games out of first place.
Fingers crossed the trades they make are beneficial.
2026 Red Sox Trade Transactions
So, Craig Breslow made a trade before today. He traded left-handed pitcher Connelly Early to the Washington Nationals for infielder Curtis Mead. In Mead’s debut, he was hit on the left wrist in the 4th inning. Now, Mead is expected to be out approximately 8 weeks.
Now that the big day is here, there are reports that the team is actively pursuing an upgrade at shortstop, a catcher, and also additional pitching depth.
They acquired catcher Adley Rutschman from the Orioles after a medical review. They gave up the following players.
And a player to be named later. Indeed, they gave up a lot to get one injury-prone player. Personally, I think the Red Sox overpaid. In addition, many believe Rutschman is an upgrade from the catchers on the roster. But Rutschman has been frequently injured. He has already had 5 injuries in the last year.
When I was watching Felger & Mazz, I liked something Tony Massarotti brought up. He said that he wished they would manage their roster better. He also said he wishes they would improve their roster rather than adding question marks.
Also, Ken Rosenthal reported that the Red Sox are focused on an impact shortstop.
Up-to-the-Minute Trade News
With less than 2 hours to go before the deadline, it has been reported by multiple sources that they are looking to add a shortstop before 6:00 p.m.
Hence, it has been reported that the Red Sox are in discussions to acquire a shortstop. But the high price to acquire a shortstop may be too much after the trade for a catcher. So, they may not have enough to pull off another trade.
The clock is ticking!
In my opinion, they need a power bat that isn’t on the injury list. Additionally, Craig Breslow should have looked for players who aren’t hurt. Also, he gave up a lot to get a player who has been on the injury list frequently. Unfortunately, Breslow has made a lot of bad deals and lacks the respect of other MLB managers. Meanwhile, I wish they could move on from Breslow.
With the clock winding down, it was announced that the team may have made another move. Ken Rosenthal has reported that Marcelo Mayer has been traded for left-handed relief pitcher Erik Miller.
Furthermore, there are many teams that are competing for a playoff spot that have become better.
