So, are you ready for October sports? Indeed, this is the busiest and most exciting month of the year for sports lovers.

First and foremost, the MLB begins its postseason. Also, the NFL started a few weeks ago, and the NBA and NHL will be starting soon.
October Sports – NFL
Since I’m a big fan, I started the year excited about the New England Patriots. In early 2026, they headed to the Super Bowl for the 12th time. To learn more about how they fared in Super Bowl LX, check out my Super Bowl Rematch – Patriots v Seahawks.

In the first 3 games, the Patriots look awful. Mike Vrabel says his concerns are very high. .Clearly, the team needs a reset. Or will the 2026 Patriots team keep struggling?
Several NFL teams are undefeated through the first 3 weeks.
October Sports – MLB
Now that the regular season has ended in MLB, the postseason begins on Tuesday, September 29th.
The Wildcard series has 8 teams competing to advance to the division series.
The Red Sox will face the New York Yankees for the 2nd consecutive year. To see how the series went the last time they faced each other, visit my 2025 Red Sox v Yankees Wild Card.
This series is the best of 3, and the schedule is as follows.
Tuesday, September 29th – Game 1 will be in New York at 8:00 p.m. on NBC/Peacock
Wednesday, September 30th – Game 2 will be in New York at 8:00 p.m. on NBC/Peacock
If necessary, Game 3 will be Thursday, October 1st in New York at 8:00 p.m. on NBC/Peacock
Because I’m a huge Red Sox fan, I had high hopes for this year’s team. However, this year’s team has been up and down. At the trade deadline, the Red Sox were active. But the team has struggled all year. To learn more about the moves they made, check out my 2026 Red Sox Trade Deadline.
In my opinion, I don’t expect them to go very far. Although they have made historic strides under the team’s new manager, Chad Tracy, I think they’re vulnerable.
There are many teams vying for a championship. But the Los Angeles Dodgers are favorites to win a 3rd consecutive title. Or will there be another team that may win the World Series in 2026?
October Sports – NBA
So, the 2026 – 27 NBA season begins on October 30, 2026, and will end on April 11, 2027.
Though I’m excited to see how the Boston Celtics look, I have low expectations. The Celtics traded Jalen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers in July, and now have a revamped lineup. Meanwhile, I don’t expect to see the Celtics go very far.
After adding Jalen Brown and LeBron James, I think the 76ers have a chance to win it all.
October Sports – NHL
The 2026 – 27 NHL season starts a little earlier than normal. The season starts on September 29th, and the regular season ends on April 10, 2027.
The Boston Bruins enter the season with a blend of veteran leadership and a young core.
David Pastrnak has been named the 28th captain in the team’s franchise history. Also, Pastrnak believes the Atlantic Division will be very competitive. Of course, his hope is that the Bruins will be much better.
Due to an expanded 84-game schedule, getting 100 points is the new baseline expectation.
Are you Ready for October Sports?
At the same time, this month is shaping up to be huge for sports fans worldwide. In addition to the MLB, NBA, NFL, and NHL, there are also collegiate sports, the Global Grand Prix Sprints, and the Rugby League World Cup.
