National Napping Day March 11

National Napping Day March 11

National napping day is today. Since we all lost an hour of sleep yesterday due to daylight savings time; this day provides you the chance to catch up on your sleep today.

National Napping Day

This day was started in 1999 by William Anthony and his wife, Camille to highlight the health benefits of sleep. Moreover, he chose this day based on many Americans needing a nap the next day due to losing an hour of sleep to daylight savings time the day before. When you’re little, napping is part of your everyday routine. However, as we get older, most individuals are too busy with school or work to have time to take a little nap. In my opinion, napping helps rejuvenate.

Whenever you have the time, try to get in a few minutes of snooze time.

National Napping Day Health Benefits

In the first place, there are many health benefits associated with taking a nap. Since many people in the United States suffer from sleep deprivation, a nap can give you the time to feel more alert.

However, if you have sleep deprivation, a nap will not help. If you have sleep deprivation, it is important to talk to your doctor about things you can do to improve your sleeping habits. To read more about sleep deprivation, be sure to check out my National Sleep Comfort Month post.

If you get enough sleep most times; a nap can be a great alternative on days you feel a little bit tired. The benefits of taking a nap are:

  • First, you will feel more alert.
  • Second, a nap can reduce stress.
  • Third, a nap can reduce any errors or lapse in judgement.
  • Fourth, a nap can increase your energy.
  • Fifth, a nap can reduce fatigue.

National Napping Day Tips

So, if you need a nap during the day; the best thing to do is find a quiet place to doze off.

  • 15 – 20 minutes is perfect to give you a boost of energy.
  • 30 – 60 minutes may have you feeling a little bit tired still. Shorter naps are overall better to improve your bodily functions.
  • 60 minutes and over may be needed to put you back on track.

Finally, the most important part of napping is to give you a boost in your productivity. Whether you’re at work or home; the key is to find a quiet place to get some shut-eye.

As always, I welcome your comments.

Happy National Napping Day!
