Rick Porcello Throws Immaculate Inning

Rick Porcello Throws Immaculate Inning

So, in last night’s game, Red Sox Pitcher, Rick Porcello had an immaculate inning. You may ask yourself, what is an immaculate inning?

Immaculate Inning – American League

When a Pitcher throws nine pitches and has three strikes and three outs, that is referred to as an immaculate inning. As early as 1902, the first Pitcher to accomplish this was Rube Waddell. Since Waddell, we have seen 33 Pitchers in the American League accomplish this. With this in mind, Porcello is the 34th Pitcher to make this list.

Another Red Sox player that accomplished this feat is Craig Kimbrel. Hence, he achieved this on May 11, 2017. Of course, over the years, we have seen several Red Sox Pitchers accomplish this as well. Additionally, we have seen in the American League the following Pitchers have an immaculate inning this year.

  • Carlos Carrasco
  • Dellin Betances
  • Jose Alvardo

Immaculate Inning – National League

As early as 1889, the first immaculate inning was tossed by John Clarkson. Since 1889, we have seen 55 Pitchers accomplish this in the National League. In addition, the following Pitchers tossed an immaculate inning this year.

  • Drew Storren
  • Max Scherzer
  • Kenley Jansen

To sum up, will more Pitchers have an immaculate inning this season?

Rick Porcello

At this time last year, Rick had a stellar record. With this in mind, this year has been a challenge. Porcello has given up a lot of hits early and opposing teams seem to have his number this year. However, there have been many good games that Porcello has lost by one run. Because the Red Sox haven’t scored a lot of runs, that has hurt his win and loss record this season.

With Porcello having a stellar year last season, it was nice to see him accomplish the perfect inning this year. Although Porcello has had a rough season, it was nice to see him get the win as well.

Moreover, I hope this feat turns Porcello’s season around. Above all, I hope to see him lower his ERA and have a better record.

Conclusion

Since the Red Sox added some pieces at the Trade Deadline, they have been playing much better. As the Red Sox continue to win games and have now won 8 straight, what else can we expect from this team this season?

As always, I welcome your comments.
