So, the World Cup happens every four years. However, if you’re like me, you may not know a lot about soccer. Therefore, today’s post will provide you with information for the final event to be hosted in Russia.

World Cup Guide

Although, soccer is one of the most popular sports in the world, not everyone knows a lot about this sport. In the first place, it seems like everywhere I go, people are talking about the match-ups. But, for me, I’m clueless.

First and foremost, the World Cup takes place every four years. Similarly to the Olympics, there is a lot of planning that takes place. First, this tournament assembles 32 of the best national teams from different countries. Second, the event lasts for approximately five weeks.

Consequently, the tournament began on June 14th and the final game will be on July 15th.

For those of you who don’t know much about soccer, chances are you will at least catch one of the match-ups. As teams play the various games, they move onto the next round.

FIFA

Since you may wonder what is FIFA, it stands for soccer’s governing body. Meanwhile, in America, FIFA stands for the International Federation of Association Football. Back in 1904, the organization started to oversee international games in Europe. Today, FIFA oversees over 211 national teams. Moreover, each teams ultimate goal is to be one of the 32 teams for the FIFA World Cup.

For any team to qualify for the tournament, the process can take between 2 – 3 years. Because so many of the teams are from Europe; more than half of the teams are from various European countries.

In the same fashion, all the players for the tournament are hand-picked from professional leagues throughout the world. Meanwhile, many of these players are well known and ready for the big stage.

With the games underway, this year’s tournament has provided plenty of excitement. Now, the tournament is down to the last few weeks. As of today, six teams are already awaiting their next opponent.

  • Belgium
  • Croatia
  • England
  • France
  • Russia
  • Urguay

Also, Argentina must win their next game to move on. In addition, Brazil, Germany, Portugal and Spain have some challenges.  As of today, Spain and Portugal are even in points. Who will advance? Furthermore, Iceland’s dream of making it to the finals may end if they don’t win their next match-up.
