Not only is today National Melanoma Monday, but it is also skin cancer and prevention month. Since the first Monday of the month is dedicated as Melanoma Monday; this day is a reminder of how important it is to schedule a skin examination with your Dermatologist.

Melanoma Monday

As most of you know, skin cancer is much more prevalent. When you’re outside, it is imperative to use a moisturizer with an SPF 30 or more. No matter where you’re going, make sure you have your skin protected. Before leaving your home, make sure you have coverage on any part of your skin that is exposed.

At the same time, it is imperative that you have a good Dermatologist as part of your health care. For anyone who knows me, you know how over-the-top I am when it comes to taking care of myself. Indeed, for the smallest thing, I run to the Doctor. So, after my bout with skin cancer; I’m more on top of everyone I know to make an appointment with a Dermatologist. Indeed, it is important to get your skin checked.

In essence, not only has my advice helped several friends, but it also can help save you from a serious diagnosis. In fact, in the last few years we have heard about a lot of deaths from melanoma. Don’t procrastinate. Schedule an appointment today.

Skin Care Tips

No doubt, one of the most important things you can do for yourself is, protect your skin from the sun. Consequently, the number one cause of skin cancer comes from harmful ultra violet rays. So, not only should you use a good SPF lotion of at least a 30+, but you should also reapply your lotion at least every two hours when swimming or soaking up the rays.

Also, exposure to sun can cause wrinkles, brown age spots and other skin care problems. Since the sun is strongest between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., you may want to find a shady area. Now, there are a lot of companies that make special clothing to protect you from sun exposure.

  1. Lynne, Thank you you for writing a blog about this. Unfortunately, most people dismiss skin cancer saying it’ll never happen to me, but it can. Both my wife and I have been diagnosed with melanoma. People need to pay more attention and stay out of the sun.

    1. Jeff,
Thanks for your comments as many ignore having a skin examination and this is as important as any type of medical check-up. Everyone should have a body scan. Since both of us have been impacted by melanoma, I have had everyone I know schedule a skin exam and quite a few friends ended up having pre-cancerous issues. So, I hope everyone schedules an appointment with a Dermatologist as part of their regular health check-up.
      Best,
      Lynne
