Project Smile Fashion Event 2018

Project Smile Fashion Event 2018

Project Smile, fashion and music merged together at an event this past Friday night. After attending last year’s event, I was looking forward to attending this show for the second straight year.

Project Smile

First and foremost, this non-profit started in 2003. Since that time, it has emerged as one of the providers in helping donate stuffed animals, coloring books, crayons and books to fire and police departments to give to any child who has suffered a traumatic event.

Because first Responders are ultimately the first person a child sees; this charities hope is to help ease a child’s pain by providing something to soothe their pain or loss.

Since I have personally seen the impact a traumatic event can have on a child’s life; this organization is doing something to ease the pain. To read more about my own personal story, be sure to visit my Losing Edie post.

This event started off with a silent auction, various vendors and a small station set up of various cheese and vegetables. Although this show was slated to start at 8:00 p.m.; they didn’t start until close to 8:30.

Although the promotions said there would be appetizers; this was not served and after speaking to a few of the personnel, I was told they decided not to serve appetizers. Also, the dessert station was empty before many people even knew about it.

So, this year’s event was hosted by Antoinette Antonio of Channel 5. This event brought together various independent designers, vendors and performances.

Project Smile Fashion on Fire Review

Indeed, the purpose of this show is for charity. Overall, I found this event missed the mark. Since I have a background in the fashion industry; I reached out to the founder of the organization prior offering assistance as well as I offered to donate items for this event. Unfortunately, the founder of this event wasn’t responsive to my offering.

Unfortunately, this event is poorly run with the show disorganized and much of the fashions and entertainment held no appeal to those attending the event. Many of the Men sitting nearby thought the male fashions looked like great styles for Halloween.

Since much of the fashion styles weren’t wearable, there were a few that stood out.

Consequently, a small show doesn’t require a 35 minute intermission. Many people left during the intermission and were overall disappointed at the pace of the show – myself included. Needless to say, myself and my group of friends will be skipping this event going forward.

For me and my friends, the highlight of this event was the charities message.

In summary, this event could have done a lot more to capture the attention of those attending the event.

As always, I welcome your comments.
