No doubt, there is a right and wrong way to give a sincere apology. So, today’s post is about the best ways to communicate your mistake.

Sincere Apology

When you make a mistake or do something wrong; you should acknowledge what you did wrong. Of course, we all make mistakes. Although some of us make mistakes more often than not; the best way is to handle any issue to remedy our mistake.

First and foremost, it is important to confess you messed up. In the same way, the best way to do this is to make a statement accepting responsibility. At the same time, it is important to let someone know why you did something wrong. When you accept responsibility, you’re owning up to your mistake.

Another key component of a sincere apology is to let someone know there won’t be a repeat of your mistake. By admitting you did something wrong; you’re accepting what you did was wrong.

Romantic Apologies

No doubt, apologizing to the person you love can be difficult. Of course, our emotions run hot and cold in a romantic relationship. However when you screw up; it is important to apologize.

As a Woman, I tend to apologize more than my Husband. When he does something that upsets me; he has a difficult time saying he is sorry. When your significant other does something wrong; it is important to let them know they hurt your feelings.

So next time you have to say your sorry to your partner; be creative in your apology. For instance, you can plan something special for them or create a music CD of some of their favorite songs. Of course, jewelry is a big hit for any Women.

Business Apologies

Because communication is important in any professional situation; I think apologies aren’t used often enough. Since it is important to diffuse a professional situation quickly; the following are tips for a professional apology.

  • First and foremost, acknowledge the situation quickly so it doesn’t fester.
  • When you apologize, explain what your thought process was and why something occurred.
  • Moreover, take accountability for your actions.
  • Try to avoid conflict moving forward.

Indeed, one of the most important ingredients in an apology in a business situation is to acknowledge your mistake and how you will fix the issue. No doubt, a professional apology should be clear, concise and hopefully you can move forward in a professional manner.

Sorry

Remember the song, “Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word” by Elton John. Consequently, that song was about a relationship that fell apart. So, next time you have any type of miscommunication; take ownership. Be proactive and make sure your apology resonates with the person you’re apologizing to.

In essence, righting a wrong takes courage.

As always, I welcome your comments.
