Spring Training 2017 Surprises

Spring Training 2017 Surprises

Although Spring training 2017 is almost over, today’s post is about surprises and disappointments. Of course, spring training doesn’t matter.

Spring Training 2017

Because spring training is a time for teams to get acclimated, there have been some surprises early on. Also, bad teams can look good and good teams can look bad.

Sunshine and warmer temperatures mark the start of baseball in Arizona and Florida. The Cactus League plays in Arizona and the Grapefruit League plays in Florida.

With half of the teams playing in Arizona, you can preview the teams without having to drive more than 47 miles. When you visit Arizona, you will notice the parks surrounded by mesas, rock formations and cactus. If you’re visiting Florida, fans can experience sun, palm trees, water and deep ties to the game’s history.

Spring Training 2017 Surprises

In view of the Red Sox being my favorite team, it is a surprise to see Pablo Sandoval looking and playing well. Also, Greg Bird of the Yankees is having a strong Spring season putting up power numbers. No one would know, Greg underwent shoulder surgery and missed last season. In addition, several other Yankee players are having a good Spring. With this in mind, they’re leading the league early on in spring training games.

If you’re following the home run leaders this season, you will wonder who Brock Stassi is. Although he is 27 years old, he is making a name for himself early on with the Phillies. Also, right next to Stassi is Jabari Blash of the San Diego Padres. Although he is the same age as Stassi, he has been playing a while. Strikeouts have been an issue in the past.

Also, many other players from various teams have shown promise in spring training.

Spring Training 2017 Disappointments

Of course, every team has disappointments. Being a Red Sox fan, I will start with early disappointments. David Price has always been a durable starter and unfortunately is showing signs of slowing down. Although, he doesn’t have to go in for Tommy John surgery, he will start the season on the disabled list.

Is this the end of the road for David Wright? Shoulder issues have set him back early on. In addition, the Detroit Tigers and the Texas Rangers are having bad results in spring training 2017 games.

Conclusion

Although spring training doesn’t count, there are early signs of some players and teams to keep an eye on this season.

In conclusion, I’m looking forward to opening day and seeing how the Red Sox will do this season.
