Understanding The Grieving Process

Understanding The Grieving Process

No doubt, losing someone and how we face the grieving process is one of life’s difficult moments. In the first place, loss means different things to different people.

Grieving Process

For anyone who has lost a spouse, parent, sibling, child, relative or friend; you know there is pain associated with any type of loss. With loss, comes emotional pain. As someone who has had a lot of losses in my life, I have gone through many different stages in the grieving process.

In fact, there is no right or wrong way to handle a loss. When I lost my Sister, Edie, I felt like part of me died with her. To read more about this, be sure to visit my Losing Edie post.

And, tomorrow will mark the one year death anniversary of my Sister-in-law, Maria. To read more about Maria, visit my Pause and Remember Maria Mota post.

In essence, there is no right way to move through a grieving process. However, it is important that those individuals in our lives understand our process. Of course, it is important for our friends and family to remember that our hurt and loss isn’t over after the death of a loved one.

For many, people disappear after the funeral. But, it is important for our friends and family to continue to reach out to us. By reaching out, you’re showing support. So, reach out today to someone who has suffered a loss. Let them know they’re in your thoughts.

Grief and Loss

When you think about grief, loss immediately comes to mind. However, there are different types of losses we each experience in our lifetime. Of course, there are different types of losses not associated to death. For instance, the end of a relationship can cause tremendous pain. Consequently, death of a pet can cause grief. Indeed, there are a lot of different types of losses that can cause grief such as:

  • Loss of a job or losing your business
  • Also, a change in your financial situation
  • Loss of a friendship
  • Selling or losing your home
  • Moreover, health or an illness can inflict a lot of pain
  • Above all, it is okay to acknowledge your pain or loss.

In conclusion, the grieving process takes time. Certainly, healing happens differently for each and every one of us. No matter how long it takes you to heal; it is important to give yourself the time to process a situation.

As always, I welcome your comments.

  1. To lose someone we love it’s really hard but their soul and spirit will always be with us forever God bless all of us.

  2. That was a beautiful write-up on grieving. Tomorrow will be the death anniversary of my Sister and she is on my mind every day. I have a lot of fond memories of my sister growing up. Also, my Sister-in-law who was murdered, I have a lot of fond memories as well. I have memories of all the losses in my life and think of all the family members and special people I have lost and will never forget them. They are with me in thought and spirit every day.

Thinking of you Lynne and Joe on Maria’s 1 year anniversary. I do believe our loved ones are still with us as we carry them in our heart.

    1. Denise,
Thanks for your kind words on Maria’s death anniversary. As you know, I’m very spiritual and believe our loves ones are with us each and every day.
      Best,
      Lynne
